Your Tuesday Evening Briefing
By ANDREA KANNAPELL AND SANDRA STEVENSON
|
Good evening. Here's the start of tonight's briefing. |
1. Hillary Clinton appeared poised to sweep the South in Super Tuesday primaries, while Donald Trump's possible claim of 10 states prompted the House speaker, Paul Ryan, to insist that any nominee "reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry." Rivals of both front-runners kept up the competition. Bernie Sanders voted in Vermont at the start of the day, saying he was "feeling great" about his prospects. Ted Cruz hoped to win Texas and not just for the delegates. If he carries his home state, he can ramp up pressure on Marco Rubio, who in his own home state, Florida, is trailing Mr. Trump. |
2. The F.B.I. director, James Comey, told the House Judiciary Committee that the F.B.I. had potentially lost the information on a San Bernardino terrorist's iPhone when the agency forced the phone's password to be changed hours after the attack. But he insisted that the government would continue pressing Apple to help it extract any remaining information on the phone. |
